Foundry Technician

Are you technically skilled, hands-on and interested in foundry technology? Would you like to work in an environment where practical foundry work and research & development come together?

As an R&D Foundry Technician, you are actively involved in the preparation and execution of casting trials for a wide range of R&D projects. You work closely with Technicians, Engineers and Scientists and help translate R&D ideas into practical foundry trials.

This is a varied, hands-on role in which no two days are exactly the same. One day you may be preparing moulds and melting alloys for a casting trial, while another day you may be supporting an experiment, preparing samples or maintaining equipment.

What will you be doing?

Your activities will include:

• Preparing and carrying out ferrous and non-ferrous casting trials for R&D projects.
• Preparing casting moulds using, among others, furan-bonded and clay-bonded sand.
• Preparing melts according to melt specifications and casting requirements.
• Melting different alloys and adjusting their composition when required.
• Treating molten metal with alloying and treatment materials.
• Safely transferring molten metal from induction and resistance furnaces to casting moulds using casting and treatment ladles.
• Supporting and carrying out casting operations.
• Performing post-processing activities such as grinding, sawing and sand or corundum blasting.
• Machining and preparing samples for analysis and further testing.
• Recording casting parameters, observations and results for R&D projects.
• Supporting Technicians, Engineers and Scientists during experiments and development trials.
• Operating, maintaining and helping improve foundry and R&D equipment.
• Carrying out basic preventive and corrective maintenance where appropriate.
• Contributing to improvements in casting processes, working methods, quality and safety.

Quality and safety are essential within our R&D foundry. You work with molten metal, high temperatures and specialised equipment, so a strong safety mindset is important.

You ensure that casting trials are carried out according to the required specifications and procedures. You work in accordance with our HSE guidelines, use the required personal protective equipment (PPE) and contribute to maintaining a safe, clean and well-organised working environment.

At the same time, you actively contribute to continuous improvement. Together with your colleagues, you look for opportunities to improve casting processes, reduce defects and make our working methods safer and more efficient.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a practical and technically minded colleague who enjoys working in an R&D environment and is comfortable combining hands-on foundry work with experimental activities.

You preferably bring:

• An MBO-level education or equivalent vocational qualification, for example in Foundry Technology, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or Operational Engineering.
• Practical experience in a technical, manufacturing or heavy-industry environment.
• Experience in a foundry or with casting processes is a strong advantage.
• Knowledge of sand casting, melting processes or metallurgy is an advantage.
• Good technical understanding and an interest in mechanical and electrical equipment.
• A hands-on, accurate and solution-oriented way of working.
• The ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A strong focus on quality and safe working practices.
• Good communication skills in Dutch and English.
• VCA and certificates for operating a forklift, aerial work platform and/or crane are an advantage.
