For Foseco we are looking for a:


This position will conduct a variety of laboratory experiments, from routine procedures to detailed research projects with limited management guidance. You will instruct Research Technicians in the correct procedures and practices and support the lead Analytical Lab Manager in ensuring that the assigned work for their area of responsibility is carried out timeously and with due attention to all aspects of safety and quality.

Relevant for this position is experience and good understanding of sample preparation and analysis of casting defects.

You are good at:

  • Set up and operate laboratory instruments especially optical and electron scanning microscopes, prepare metal samples for metallographic analysis, make observations, record and report results.
  • Participating  in the design and development of experiments.
  • Developing improved analytical methods.
  • Computing and analyzing test data, preparing reports, and identiying possible defect root causes or other changes based on test results. 
  • Performing analytical tests such as optical microscopy, sample etching, SEM etc.
  • General objectives are established, but you are required to select a method that will accomplish the task in the most efficient manner.
  • Maintenance of detailed lab book of all work performed.
  • You must develop expert knowledge of laboratory equipment so that you can adjust settings when necessary and recognize when equipment is malfunctioning.
  • You will take a lead role in developing standard operating procedures and actively contribute in the risk analysis exercise of non-standard procedures.  


  • Associate’s degree required in applied science preferably material science
  • >5 years of equivalent work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in metallography
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others required.
  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Organizational ability and skill in interpreting scientific results are required
